Greek Life and Program & Theme Communities

Greek Life

Greek Life at Brown consists of sororities, fraternities, and gender-inclusive organizations. There are both nationally and locally based organizations at Brown. All the organizations, except NPHC organizations, are residential and are housed in the residence halls on Wriston Quad. All Greek organizations on campus are a part of one of the three Greek Councils (Brown NPC, Brown NPHC, Independent Greek Council) and are held to policies and regulations outlined by Residential Life and the Brown Greek Councils. Students can only be an active member of one Greek organization.

Program Communities

Program communities are residential experiences that are centered around a particular interest. Program communities can be found all around campus in many of the residence halls. Each program community has a specific area of focus and creates a space for students to come together in a residential space to program and create community. All program communities on campus are held to policies and regulations outlined by Residential Life. Students can only be an active member of one program community at any given time.

Theme Communities

Theme communities are university-driven residential experiences that have a co-curricular connection to a University department, Affinity Center, or Initiative. They are housed within residence halls across campus.
