Division of Campus Life
Residential Life

The Office of Residential Life is excited to welcome our new and continuing students to Brown. As a reminder, new students are scheduled to arrive on August 28; returning students arrive on August 31.

Early Arrival Request Process

Students assigned to on-campus housing who are participating in one of the following programs or have one of the following criteria may request to arrive prior to their official move-in day: pre-orientation programs, fall athletic programs, student employment, sponsored program/research, or international travel limitations.

Requests outside of those conditions and without sponsorship are subject to further review and may not be approved. Sponsors are responsible for payment. If a student lacks a sponsor, that student is responsible for payment.

To request an early arrival date, students must complete the Early Arrival form, once it becomes available in July, prior to the priority deadline, which is still to be determined.  While submissions received after this date may be considered, they are subject to additional review and may not be approved.

Please note that early arrival requests are limited to students with fall housing assignments ONLY. We cannot offer temporary housing to students studying abroad in the fall or living off-campus. Requests by returning students to return on August 28 are subject to further review and may not be approved as it is our new student move-in day.

All requests will be verified with the sponsoring department or staff. Confirmation notices will be sent by our office on a rolling basis.

Students with any questions about when they should arrive may contact their sponsor.  All other questions can be directed to  res_life@brown.edu

Financial Assistance

Domestic Students who are unable to return home during the early arrival period due to safety concerns and need financial assistance with on-campus housing and/or meals, need to schedule a financial advising appointment with the College here. Please keep in mind that financial assistance is not guaranteed, and you must also be separately approved to stay on campus by the Office of Residential Life. Questions regarding EGAP early arrival housing and meal support should be directed to financial_advising@brown.edu.

International students studying on an F-1 visa in need of financial assistance for on-campus housing and/or meals during the early arrival period should contact  internationaladvising@brown.edu.

Departmental Requests

Departments intending to sponsor students during the extended housing period must complete this brief form and upload the Fall 2024 Departmental Early Arrival Request sheet to it no later than Friday, August 2, 2024 at 12pm ET.

All students who need early arrival housing, including those sponsored by departments, must fill out the early arrival request form when it becomes available, and have until August 7 at 11:59pm ET to do so. The Office of Residential Life will cross reference their responses with the information provided by departments to ensure each student is accounted for and their departure date is accurately recorded. All students who need early arrival housing, including those being sponsored by departments, must fill out this form. Students who do not submit early arrival requests will not be approved for early arrival.

The early arrival, extended, and winter housing fee for sponsoring departments is $45 per night per student for the 2024 - 2025 academic year.

Meal coverage is coordinated through Dining Services, please contact dining_services.brown.edu to make and/or confirm arrangements.
