Spring Closing Procedures & 2026-2027 Housing Updates

Community Messages

Dear Students,

As you head into finals, we wish you the best of luck. To help you prepare for the end of the semester, please review the following updates regarding:

  • Move-Out & Key Return Deadlines
  • New Microfridge Update for 2026-2027
  • Storage & Donation Guidelines

Move-Out & Key Return

Move-Out: Residence halls close at 12 noon on Saturday, May 16 (May 25 for December graduates). Extended housing is available, but you will need to notify our office of your request via the housing portal.

Key Returns: You must return your key after you have fully moved out. Sign up for a key drop time via the Spring 2026 Departure Form. Return keys to:

  • Key Office: Grad Center E, 3rd Floor (42 Charlesfield St)
  • Drop Boxes: Arnold Lounge or Emery Lobby
  • Note: If you have lost your key, reply to this email immediately to expedite your checkout.

Room Inspections: Staff in ResLife gear will be entering vacated spaces for inspections. They will announce themselves and carry Brown IDs at all times.

2026-2027 Microfridge Update

Beginning with the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year, the University will no longer provide microfridge units (attached mini-fridge/microwave) as a standard amenity.

  • You may rent a unit from our preferred vendor (who will deliver, remove, and maintain the mini-fridge), bring your own mini-fridge (as long as they meet certain specifications), or use communal kitchen refrigerators.
  • For more information: Join our webinar this summer and carefully read the housing agreement for details.

Storage & Donation Guidelines

Personal Items & Donations: All items must be removed from your room. Anything left behind will be disposed of at your expense. Visit the Clean Break webpage for donation locations and schedules.

Bikes: Summer bike storage is not available. Any bikes left on campus racks after closing will be considered unclaimed property and removed.

Summer Storage: Storage Scholars and Conlon Student Storage are the only vendors authorized to enter residence halls. If you use a different company, you must meet them outside the building.

Have a safe and relaxing summer break!

Sincerely,

Brenda Ice (she/her)
