Lockouts and Lock Changes
If you are locked out of your room and you are borrowing a key, or if your keys have been lost or stolen, you need to be aware of these policies and procedures.
Lockouts
If you are locked out, contact the Residential Life Key Office by calling 401-863-3502. You will be expected to meet staff at the Key Office (Grad Center E, 3rd floor; 42 Charlesfield Street) unless you are not dressed to come out and obtain a key. The Key Office is open 24/7, including weekends, holidays, and breaks.
Blue light phones are available for use if you are locked outside without a phone.
Room Verification
Your room assignment will be verified prior to the key being issued. You can only be issued a key to the room you are assigned to. Keys cannot be issued to friends or to relatives.
Returning Loaned Keys
Loaned keys are to be returned within 1 hour if they are borrowed during the day. Keys that are borrowed late in the evening need to be returned by Noon the next day. You may incur a lock change charge if the loaned key is not returned within the specified time.
You may incur a charge for borrowing a key or requiring the services of a staff member to provide an admit. Shown below is the schedule of charges. These charges apply for the full academic year and to both lockouts where keys and/or a swipe card are loaned and lockouts where staff provide an admit.

Lock Changes
If you have temporarily misplaced your key or have left it at home, tell a staff member. We will work with you to establish a reasonable deadline date for the return of the borrowed key. You will be advised of the specific deadline for the loaned key's return. If that deadline passes without the loaned key being returned a lock change will be scheduled at your expense. Please note that during this time period we will not have a key available to assist you if you are locked out.
Lost Keys
If you have lost your keys there is a Lost and Found department in Public Safety; please call 401-863-1663 to ask if your keys have been turned in before requesting a lock change.
If you do not return the loaned key within the designated time period a lock change may be scheduled at your expense. Lock change prices are listed in the table below that amount will be billed to your student account.
