Community Messages
Dear Students,
We hope you are well, and are looking forward to the upcoming Parent & Family Weekend. We write to you today as a follow-up to our initial announcement last week about housing selection for the 2025 - 2026 Academic Year. As a rising senior, a RUE student, or a BRDD rising 3rd year student, your housing selection process is now available for you in the housing portal. Please read this message carefully, as it contains important information for you, regardless of whether you plan to live on campus, off campus, or attend a study abroad or exchange program.
On-Campus Housing
If you plan to live in on-campus housing for the Fall 2025 semester or the entire 2025 - 2026 Academic Year, you must complete this application before it closes at 11:59pm ET on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. To ensure you have ample opportunity to apply, we will send several reminders before the deadline.
ALL rising seniors, RUE students, and BRDD rising 3rd year students who plan to live on campus next fall must apply by this deadline, including but not limited to: Community Coordinators (both prospective and returning), students in Greek or Program organizations, students planning to live in a Theme House, students interested in Special Interest Housing, students who hope to receive housing accommodations through SAS, students interested in religious-based housing, and students interested in general housing selection.
If you do not apply on time by November 12 and later desire on-campus housing, you will have the opportunity to fill out a late housing form and will be placed on a waitlist. Such students will only be housed if space becomes available after all first-year, sophomore, and junior students have been assigned housing. The availability of housing for rising seniors who miss the November 12 deadline is not guaranteed, and may not be determined until mid-to-late Summer 2025.
Off-Campus and Commuter Status
If you do not plan to live in on-campus housing for the Fall 2025 semester or the entire 2025 - 2026 Academic Year, you must complete the Off-Campus and Commuter Form (accessible via the Forms process) to confirm this plan. Once you have completed this form, you will thereafter be ineligible for on-campus housing for the 2025 - 2026 Academic Year, and will not receive additional reminders regarding on-campus housing. If your plans change before November 12, you may cancel your off-campus or commuter status and fill out the on-campus application before it closes on November 12.
If your plans change after November 12 and you later desire on-campus housing, you will have the opportunity to fill out a late housing form and will be placed on a waitlist. Such students will only be housed if space becomes available after all first-year, sophomore, and junior students have been assigned housing. The availability of housing for rising seniors, RUE students, BRDD rising 3rd years, and any other students not bound by the residency requirement who miss the November 12 deadline is not guaranteed, and may not be determined until mid-to-late Summer 2025.
Study Abroad and Exchange Programs
If you plan to study abroad or attend an exchange program, including the Brown in Washington Program and the Brown Semester Internship Program, you can choose from two options, detailed below, depending on what your backup plan would be if you do not end up attending that program.
If you plan to attend one of these programs but would live on campus if you cannot attend the program, you should fill out the on-campus application by November 12. There will be a page in the application which will collect more specific information from you about your plans. This page will also explain what will happen to your application if you do commit to studying abroad/away/exchange, as well as how you can receive housing for the spring semester upon your return from a fall program.
If you plan to attend one of these programs but would live off campus if you cannot attend the program, you should fill out the off-campus or commuter form to record your plans.
In closing, we recognize that your residential assignment is an integral part of your Brown experience. We are committed to supporting students in understanding their housing options, navigating the housing selection processes, and receiving a housing assignment that meets their needs and provides opportunities to grow in community.
You are encouraged to attend our information sessions, open houses, or staff office hours to learn more, which can be found on our website.
All of the dates for each phase of housing selection are listed on our website and are found on the IMPORTANT RESIDENTIAL LIFE DATES Google Calendar. We encourage you to add this calendar to your own calendar to ensure you are aware of these important dates. As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at res_life@brown.edu, or attend the office hours we offer every weekday.
Kind regards,
