Dear Students,

We hope that you are doing well and are looking forward to Spring Break. As we reach the mid-point in the semester, we wanted to provide you with an update regarding spring closing and departure procedures that pertain specifically to Brown-RISD Dual Degree (BRDD) students. 

In support of Commencement and Reunion Weekend, and in collaboration with Facilities Management, our office has a very short turnover period to prepare the residence halls for the arrival of Commencement and Reunion guests. While no action is required at this time, we ask that you thoroughly review this message and use this information to make your plans for the end of the semester.

Residence Hall Closure

The standard closing dates for Brown residence halls are 12:00pm ET on Saturday, May 17 for non-graduating students and Monday, May 26 for graduating students, including those graduating in December 2025.

However, in order to better align with the RISD academic calendar, BRDD students may request to remain in Brown residence halls, without charge, until the following dates:

• Non-graduating BRDD students: may request to stay at Brown with no additional housing fees until May 24, 2025
• Graduating BRDD students: may request to stay at Brown with no additional housing fees until June 1, 2025

You will receive more detailed closing information on April 2. In the meantime, for more information about spring closing, please visit our website.

Planning for Campus Departure

Beginning April 2, we will ask you to provide our office with your departure date via the Spring 2025 Departure Form by either signing up for a Key Drop Time (departure on or before May 17 at 12pm) or by requesting extended housing (departure after May 17 at 12pm). We will email you the link to this form when it becomes available.

Summer Housing:  

Our office provides an opportunity for students to request summer lodging if they intend to be on-campus for employment, research, Summer Session courses, or in cases of housing insecurity outside Brown.   

Summer housing is available from Sunday, June 15, 2025 to Saturday, August 2, 2025, at a rate of $315 per week ($45 per day). The Summer Housing form will become available April 2. 

Current on-campus residents may also request extended housing between the Spring semester and the beginning of the summer housing period (called bridge housing). The bridge housing fee is $45 per day.  Otherwise students will move out and fully vacate their rooms by May 17th at noon and move into their summer room on June 15th.

Fall 2025 Arrival Information:

The residence halls reopen for returning students on Saturday, August 30, 2025. More information about early and standard arrival will be provided in July.
