Dear Students,
We hope you are well. We write to you today to share important information about the closing of the residence halls at the end of this semester, the opening of the residence halls in the Spring, and Winter Break housing and meal options.
Thanksgiving Break
The residence halls remain open during Thanksgiving Break (Wednesday, November 23 - Sunday, November 27). While no approval is needed to remain on-campus during this break, we ask that you let us know if you plan to stay by filling out the Thanksgiving Plans form so we can better support you.
Fall Closing
The residence halls will close at 12 noon on Thursday, December 22, after the conclusion of the final exam period. Unless you are granted extended housing by the Office of Residential Life swipe access to the residence halls will be turned off at this time. If you will continue to live on-campus in the Spring semester you must keep your room key and may keep your personal possessions in your room over the winter break period.
You will receive more detailed information about the end of the Fall semester in a future communication.
Winter Break Housing
You must complete the Winter Break Housing form by the deadline of 11:59pm ET on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, if you need to stay past 12 noon on Thursday, December 22, arrive prior to 8am on Saturday, January 21, or remain in on-campus housing for the entire Winter Break. Late requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Housing during the winter break period costs $40 per day ($280 per week).
Do not complete a Winter Break Housing form if you do not plan to live on-campus between December 22 and January 21.
Requests must be related to one of the following conditions: athletic programs, student employment, sponsored program/research, international travel challenges, Brown Winter Session, or RISD Wintersession. Requests outside of those conditions and without sponsorship are subject to further review and may not be approved. Sponsors are responsible for payment and if you are without a sponsor, you are responsible for payment. If you would like to be considered for financial support, there is a section on the form that allows you to request financial consideration.
If you will not live in on-campus housing for the Spring 2023 semester you will not be eligible for full Winter Break housing nor Spring early arrival housing. If you are in need of extended housing at the end of the Fall semester you may request it via the form but approval is not guaranteed.
Winter Break Meals
The Verney-Woolley dining hall will be open during the entire winter break period except Thursday, December 22, 2022. If you plan to be on-campus during winter break, you may indicate interest in utilizing dining services while you will be on-campus via the Winter Break Housing form.
Spring Opening
The residence halls will reopen at 8am on Saturday, January 21, 2023. Before accessing your residence hall for the Spring semester, you must complete a self check-in via the StarRez Housing Portal which will activate swipe access and inform our staff that you have arrived. The link to this process will be sent to you prior to your arrival.
If you have any questions about Fall extended housing, Spring early arrival housing, or Winter Break housing, please contact us at res_life@brown.edu.
Sincerely,
