Dear Student,
We hope that you are enjoying your summer, and that you’re looking forward to the start of your experience at Brown University this fall. We are excited to announce that the New Student Housing Application is now available for you to complete. The information you provide will allow us to match you with others with similar responses as part of our housing placement process. The deadline to complete the application is Monday, June 24 at 11:59pm ET. You can access the form using this link. Please read this email in its entirety as it contains pertinent information about our housing process, including move-in and arrival procedure.
Brown’s requirement that you live on campus for a minimum of six semesters reflects the fact that residential college life is a critical component of the Brown educational experience. When you live on campus, you are more likely to participate in student organizations and projects, cultural events and social gatherings, and civic engagement activities. Students who live on campus are also more likely to turn to one another for advice on academic choices, social opportunities and personal issues.
If you believe you meet the established criteria for an exception to the On-Campus Housing Requirement Policy, you will be able to fill out the Non-Resident Form (accessible via the Forms process), which is also due on June 24.
Housing Application
In the application, you will be able to indicate answers to the Lifestyle Questionnaire which will inform your housing assignment, including an opportunity to indicate your preference (opt-in/out) for gender inclusive housing; details embedded in the application. You will also be able to indicate interest to be placed in one of our special interest communities and provided with information related to the disability-related accommodation process.
Students seeking disability-related accommodations may register with Student Accessibility Services (SAS). The priority deadline for submitting disability-related housing accommodations is on Monday, June 24 at 11:59pm ET. Late requests submitted after this deadline are not guaranteed placement before the start of the semester. Please visit the SAS Housing Accommodation page for more information.
Fall 2024 Arrival Information
The official move-in date for new students is Wednesday, August 28. The option to arrive earlier than that date is limited to University-sponsored programs, such as pre-orientation, student leadership training, and athletics. Unless affiliated with one of our University-sponsored programs, you should plan to arrive on August 28. More information on Fall 2024 arrival will be provided on our website later this summer.
Our office partners with a variety of campus offices to ensure we are ready for your arrival. All students are issued an ID card to access buildings around campus, meals in dining facilities, and make purchases at various campus and community locations. All IDs require a photo which must be uploaded by accessing Banner Self-Service, prior to arriving on campus.
If you have any questions about providing your Brown ID photo, please contact Brown-Card-Office@brown.edu so they can assist you.
If you have any questions about your residential experience, please contact our office at res_life@brown.edu
Sincerely,
Amanda Surgens
