Residential Life Policy: Telephone Service
Each residential room is wired for telephone service; there is one telephone number per room or suite. The phone number is linked to the room, not to the person. Students are responsible for brining their own telephones and cords.
On-campus, local (Providence area), and operator-assisted telephone calls are free of charge. All lines also have the following features preprogrammed: call forwarding, call waiting, transfer, three-way conference, ring again, and last-number redial. Long-distance calling requires a calling card or the use of a Personal Billing Number (PBN) (provided by PaeTec), which will be mailed to your campus mailbox at the beginning of the semester. Students receive an individual bill for long-distance calls.
All resident students receive an individual voice mailbox at no charge. An email containing a mailbox number, initial password, and instructions on how to personalize the voice mailbox is sent to each student at the beginning of the semester. Questions regarding voice mail should be directed to the coordinator at voicemail@brown.edu. For more information, visit the communications website or call the Communications Office at (401) 863-2007.
