Residential Life Policy: Lifts
Various Brown University residence halls have interior lifts for accessibility for students with disabilities. These lifts are key operated and are located in the following dormitory facilities: Buxton, Chapin, Diman, Goddard, Harkness, Marcy, Olney, and Sears. Any student with a disability residing in a dorm where a lift is present will be issued a key that will allow them unassisted entry to, and use of, the lifts. These lift keys are maintained by the Residential Life Office and will be issued as a part of the accommodation process. In addition, upon request any student with a disability who requires use of a lift as an accommodation will be issued a key to the lifts in these facilities. Keys will be issued for the academic school year.
In the event campus visitors may need to use a lift in one of the facilities in order to attend a function or for some other legitimate purpose as an invited guest of a student residing in the facility, the inviting student should contact the Residential Life Office for the purpose of acquiring a lift key so that the student and the invited guest can have unassisted entry to, and use of, the lift. All requests should be made of the Residential Life Office. Upon the conclusion of the guest's visit the student shall return the lift key to the Residential Life Office at their earliest convenience. Outside of normal business hours, a lift key may be obtained from the Department of Public Safety in Faunce Arch. To make arrangements to acquire a lift key please contact the Department of Public Safety at (401) 863-3322 (phone) or (401) 863-1740 (TTY). Upon the conclusion of the guest's visit the student shall return the lift key to either the Residential Life Office or the Department of Public Safety at their earliest convenience.
